Welldoc Extends AI-Powered Digital Support Platform to Early-Stage Dementia and Launches Welldoc Cares Companion App

Welldoc®, a leader in AI-powered health technology for complex conditions, today extended its AI-Powered Care Loop to brain health and launched Welldoc Cares, a companion app for family caregivers. The new brain health journey uses Welldoc’s clinical-grade AI to guide individuals through everyday actions linked to cognitive health. Welldoc Cares gives family members consent-based, view-only access to support a loved one, starting with families affected by dementia.

“Brain health is a natural next step for a platform that already supports more than 35 chronic conditions, many of them closely linked to cognitive health,” said Kevin McRaith, President and CEO of Welldoc. “Our AI helps people manage blood pressure, glucose and weight day to day. Extending that guidance to brain health gives individuals a practical way to act on modifiable risk factors, and Welldoc Cares gives their families a trusted window into how they’re doing.”

Nearly half of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed by addressing modifiable risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes and physical inactivity, according to the 2024 Lancet Commission.¹ Yet only 9% of U.S. adults age 40 and older say they know a lot about how to maintain their brain health.² The need extends to families as well: nearly 13 million Americans provide unpaid care for people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias.²

“The evidence is clear that many of the risk factors that shape brain health are within our control, from sleep, physical activity and nutrition to stress, social connection, and managing blood pressure and glucose,” said Mansur Shomali, MD, CM, FACE, Chief Medical Officer of Welldoc. “Much of the work of lowering risk happens in daily life, through the choices people make. Whether they’re working to protect their brain health or already managing changes in memory and thinking, our goal is to help each person understand which decisions matter most for them and to support them day after day, alongside family members and caregivers.”

The Welldoc brain health journey helps people protect their cognitive health, including those in the early stages of dementia, through simple daily habits and brain-engaging activities. Simon, Welldoc’s AI care agent, connects brain health to each person’s broader health picture so they can focus on what matters most for them.

Welldoc Cares keeps family members informed about how their loved one is doing, with AI-powered insights to help them offer the right support at the right time. The person using Welldoc decides what to share and can change it at any time.

The brain health capabilities and Welldoc Cares are available now to Welldoc enterprise partners, including health plans, health systems and life sciences organizations building holistic care programs.
